Introduction

Welcome to the Delhibird species information, photos and identification pages.

This section of the Delhibird website is intended to be more than just a gallery of bird photos, since there are a number of existing sites on the Internet that already do this well for Indian birds (for example, the Oriental Bird Club image database and Kolkata Birds). Instead there is an emphasis on identification and other interesting information about the species depicted.

If you wish to contribute articles, photos or other interesting information, or have any suggestions on how this part of the Delhibird site could further be developed, then please contact Mike or Nik.

Previous Delhibird mystery photos, birds of the month and descriptions of rarities submitted to the Delhibird group are included within this section.

Instructions

The species list on the left is a complete list of Indian birds, based largely on "Birds of the Indian Subcontinent" by Grimmett, Inskipp and Inskipp although with a few recent updates. For convenience, the species groups used correspond with the plates in Grimmett, Inskipp and Inskipp. The plate number is included as a cross-reference.

Click on the folder icon of a species group to expand it in order to display the individual species. Click again to collapse it back up to group level.

Click on an individual species to see a summary of information about that species. If a species name in not highlighted then there is currently no information for it online.
