Throughout the state of Haryana, irrigation canals, major and minor both, irrigate the
agriculture land. On both sides of these canals are marshy areas with trees which provide
very good birding opportunities.
Suresh C Sharma has traveled along the Delhi Sub Branch from Badli village in Delhi
upto the origin of Western Yamuna Canal, J.L.N. Feeder from its origin at Sardana water
fall upto Bhindawas Lake Bird Sanctuary on scooter, bicycle, car and on foot. There is no
dearth of vast expanse of grassland on both sides with trees and bushes. At several places
marshy and seepage water attract good number of birds for foraging, shelter and nesting.
Drain Number Eight

banks with burrows, holes and bushes, woodland, bridges, overhanging branches on water
stream)
Haryana has several drains, the best being Drain Number Eight, a birder's paradise.
Though all such drains provide good birding opportunites, Drain Number Eight of Sonipat,
Rohtak and Jhajjar districts is an excellent birding area.
Village ponds :

Almost all villages have their ponds varying from just 1 acres to 100 and more acres.
All of them attract large concentration of water birds during winter. Bhambewa,
Barhwasani, Juan and Rithal being just a few among them.
Badkhal Lake

Located in Faridabad district, the lake attracts water birds and nearby hills provide
very good birding opportunities.
Surajkund and its lake

Near Badkhal Lake, this too is as good as Badkhal Lake.
Tiliyar Lake

In Rohtak district, its trees provide breeding colonies to water birds during monsoon.
The Arravallis hills

Spreading over large part of south-west Haryana, the rugged hills provide excellent
opportunities for birding. In fact, Badkhal and Surajkund are located on these hills only.
Even the Delhi ridges are its areas.
